Only a week to go before my Learning Live session and as described in Back on the Stage I was excited about ‘treading the boards’ again and was still deciding how I was going to run the session.

Thanks to reading the post via Twitter, David Goddin aka @Changecontinuum suggested I speak with Jon Bartlett aka @projectlibero & Martin Couzins err…. aka @Martincouzins and between us we discussed ideas to do something a little more exciting than a stand and deliver session. For anyone who still doubts the power of networks this is yet another fantastic example of social tools providing that creative spark for sharing ideas and thoughts and connecting people together.

So what’s the plan?

Well as the session in on using live online learning and online communities, I’ll be delivering the session online as well as for the live audience. The session will be recorded and thanks to @ColinSteed of the Learning & Performance Institute I’ll be using WebEx Training Centre to facilitate the session and share the presentation. Colin has also kindly offered to be my virtual flip chart fairy and manage the live chat and meeting room.

This means:

  • If you’re attending the session on the day you can bring your laptop/tablet/mobile and login to the online meeting and get involved with the session from in the room.
  • If you’re NOT attending Learning Live but are interested in the session content you can also attend the session online and get involved from anywhere in the world!

The session will be opened from 15.30 BST on the 13th September with the talk due to commence at 15.45 BST. It will last for approx 30 mins.

There are 50 places available and you can register for the session from the link below

You will need to click on the “Upcoming” section and then select the Learning Live session with Mike Collins

There are a few risks in doing this of course;

  • What if Wifi goes down?
  • What if nobody attends the online element?
  • What if we get 50 people and it can’t be managed?
  • What if my headset doesn’t work?
  • What if it’s too difficult engaging a live / online audience at the same time?
  • What if 30 mins isn’t long enough?
  • What if, what if, what if…….

There are always what if’s and buts, over the last four years during my very own Timeline for Change there have been plenty of what if’s. Had a listened to them all and let them get the better of me then that timeline for change would have stopped in 2008 and I’d still be doing the same things as I’ve always done.

So let’s do something different and let’s run a session that’s both live and online and see if we can use the tools available to create some interactivity and conversation between the people in the room and people online. After all the session is on using online tools to help people share and learn so why should this session be any different?

Are you up for getting involved?

If you’re attending Learning Live and have registered for the session then bring some tech and get involved and register. If you’re NOT attending but you are free between 15.30 and 16.30 on the 13th September then register and get involved in what could be a very interesting session.
